QUIXOTE TRAFFIC CORPORATION, INC. INTRODUCES IQCENTRAL™ TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Revolutionary software system manages legacy and new NTCIP traffic control and ITS equipment using one convenient centralized system

SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA April, 2005 -- Quixote Traffic Corporation, Inc. has announced the introduction of IQCENTRAL™, a revolutionary new, scalable Windows® -based software system that allows traffic management personnel to manage legacy and newer NTCIP traffic control and ITS equipment using one convenient centralized system.

The user friendly IQCENTRAL connects all of an agency’s equipment together into a single centralized traffic management system. IQCENTRAL is based on NTCIP architecture, allowing migration to NTCIP in existing hardware without replacing existing systems.

“The real beauty of IQCENTRAL, in addition to its functionality, is that it allows an agency to upgrade to new NTCIP field hardware at its own pace and as budgets allow,” says Pete Rowe, Product Manager for Systems and Controllers at Quixote Traffic Corporation, “without having to go out and replace older systems in order to enjoy a centralized traffic management system.”

Mary Griffin, Vice President Sales & Marketing for Quixote Traffic Corporation emphasized the significance of IQ Central on two fronts: “This is the first fully integrated system utilizing technology from the companies that were acquired by Quixote Corporation (U.S. Traffic, Peek Traffic) to form Quixote Traffic Corporation,” she said. “We were able to maintain the technological heritage of the individual companies as well as allow our customers to integrate new NTCIP field hardware into their existing systems. This is what our customers asked for and we were able to bring it market very quickly for them.”

IQCENTRAL comes fully configured and set up on a server for an agency’s specific transportation system, including arterial and intersection maps. A comprehensive library of standard reports and forms are integrated into the software for easy access, and users are able to use IQCENTRAL to manage and control their traffic flow from day one.

Accurate graphical display of intersection operation is available in real time, while remote upload/download allows quick and easy change of parameters and traffic plans from a PC located in a TMC, virtually eliminating the need to dispatch a crew to the intersection. Intersection-level-control can be managed easily from a central office or elsewhere on the network.

IQCENTRAL also provides a graphical view of current operation of arterials or intersections in real time. Using the display mode, you can upload and download controller timing, monitor controller events, verify malfunctions, and generate a variety of reports right from your desk.

IQCENTRAL is based on NTCIP architecture, allowing migration to NTCIP while utilizing hardware and existing legacy infrastructure without the need to replace existing hardware systems. Further, IQCENTRAL is networked, so authorized users on the network can access the full system functionality, including intersection display and reporting capabilities.

The underlying Windows® and database architecture of IQCENTRAL allows you to easily create custom reports or export data to popular programs such as Excel for off-line plan generation.

“IQCENTRAL is powerful and scalable,” Mr. Rowe explains, “so there is no limit to the number of intersections that can be managed. It is also incredibly user friendly as it utilizes Microsoft® technology for easy integration. Reports are published in MS Word, calculations are done in MS Excel and networking is handled through MS DCOM.”
IQCENTRAL can provide centralized management for a mix of Quixote Traffic Corporation NEMA controllers and virtually all NTCIP compliant controllers
and peripherals, including: NTCIP Overhead Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Portable Changeable Message Signs, surveillance cameras and sensors. Additionally, there are a number of QTC controllers supported by IQ Central.
